These notes cover Modules 5 to 10 of the Year 3 English syllabus. Each module includes grammar explanations, examples, and key vocabulary to help students revise and understand better.
🏠 MODULE 5: MY NEW HOUSE
1. Prepositions of Place (Where is it?)
Prepositions of place describe where someone or something is. They are useful when giving directions or describing positions.

| between | In the middle of two things. | I am sitting between my parents. |

| under | Below something. | The cat is under the chair. |
| in | Inside or within boundaries. | My clothes are in the cupboard. |
Tip: Use prepositions to describe where items are in your house. Example: “The shoes are under the table.”
2. House Vocabulary
- Rooms: Living Room, Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathroom.
- Items: Armchair (comfortable chair with arms), Sofa (long seat), Cushion (soft pad), Cabinet (furniture with shelves or drawers).
🍽️ MODULE 6: FOOD, PLEASE
1. Countable vs. Uncountable Nouns
Countable nouns can be counted, while uncountable nouns cannot. This affects how we use “There is” and “There are”.

Uncountable → sugar, water, bread, tea.
Tip: Use some for positive sentences, any for negatives or questions. Example: “Do you have any rice?” / “We don’t have any apples.”
🗺️ MODULE 7: OUT AND ABOUT
1. Giving Directions
- Turn right (↪️): “Turn right at the traffic light.”
- Turn left (↩️): “Turn left after the park.”
- Go straight: “Walk straight ahead for 5 minutes.”
- Cross the road: “Be careful when you cross the road.”
2. Rules using “MUST” or “DON’T”
- You must be quiet in the library.
- You must not (don’t) run in the park.
- You must wear a seatbelt in the car.
3. Time – The Quarter
We use “quarter” to describe 15 minutes of time.
- Quarter past = 15 minutes after the hour. (3:15 → “It’s a quarter past three.”)
- Quarter to = 15 minutes before the hour. (2:45 → “It’s a quarter to three.”)
4. Animal Plurals
- wolf → wolves (change “f” to “ves”)
- fox → foxes (add “es”)
- sheep → sheep (same form)
- deer → deer (same form)

1. Talking About the Past (Simple Past Tense)
The past tense describes actions that already happened. Some verbs are regular (add -ed), while others are irregular.

1. Holiday Activities (Past Tense)
- walked on the beach 🏖️ (regular)

- picked flowers 🌸 (regular)
- caught a fish 🐟 (irregular)
- swam in the sea 🌊 (irregular: swim → swam)
- took pictures 📷 (irregular: take → took)
2. Geographic Features
- island – land surrounded by water
- beach – sandy area near the sea
- forest – large area of trees
- river – long, flowing water body
🌍 MODULE 10: THE WORLD AROUND US
1. Comparative & Superlative Adjectives
Comparatives are used to compare two things. Superlatives compare three or more things and show the “most” or “least.”

3. Sports (Action Verbs)
- Use GO for activities ending with -ing → go swimming, go cycling, go sailing.
- Use PLAY for ball games → play football, play basketball, play badminton.
