📚 Module 10: The World Around Us

🐾 Animals

In this module, we learn about different animals and their characteristics. We use comparative and superlative adjectives to describe and compare animals.

📝 Note: When we compare things, we use special forms of adjectives:
  • Comparative: Used to compare TWO things (add -er or use "more")
  • Superlative: Used to show the MOST or LEAST of something (add -est or use "most")

Learn About These Animals:

🐆 Cheetah The fastest land animal, has spots, lives in Africa
🐀 Rat Small rodent, has a long tail, can be a pet
🐋 Whale The largest animal, lives in the ocean, a mammal
🐯 Tiger Has stripes, big cat, lives in Asia
🐬 Dolphin Smart sea animal, friendly, swims in groups
🐘 Elephant Has a trunk, largest land animal, very strong

Comparatives and Superlatives

  • The cheetah is faster than the tiger.
  • The whale is the biggest animal in the world.
  • An elephant is bigger than a rat.

🌍 The Solar System

We also learn about the planets and space in this module. The solar system has 8 planets that orbit around the Sun.

📝 The 8 Planets in Order:
  1. Mercury (smallest, closest to the Sun)
  2. Venus (hottest planet)
  3. Earth (our home planet)
  4. Mars (the red planet)
  5. Jupiter (biggest planet)
  6. Saturn (has beautiful rings)
  7. Uranus (tilted sideways)
  8. Neptune (farthest from the Sun)
📖 Examples:
  • Jupiter is bigger than Earth.
  • Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system.
  • Mercury is smaller than Earth.
  • Mercury is the smallest planet.
  • Venus is hotter than Mercury.

📚 Year In, Year Out (Module 4)

🌸 Seasons

There are four seasons in many countries. In Malaysia, we have two main seasons: dry season and rainy season (monsoon).

📝 The Four Seasons (in temperate countries):
  1. Spring 🌸 - Flowers bloom, weather gets warmer
  2. Summer ☀️ - Hot and sunny, school holidays
  3. Autumn/Fall 🍂 - Leaves fall, cooler weather
  4. Winter ❄️ - Cold, sometimes snowy
📖 Examples:
  • In spring, flowers begin to bloom.
  • Summer is the hottest season.
  • Leaves fall from trees in autumn.
  • Winter is the coldest season of the year.
  • In Malaysia, we have the dry season and rainy season.

🌤️ Weather

We use different words to describe the weather.

Weather Word Meaning
Sunny ☀️ Bright with sunshine
Rainy 🌧️ Water falling from clouds
Cloudy ☁️ Sky covered with clouds
Windy 💨 Strong wind blowing
Hot 🔥 Very warm temperature
Cold ❄️ Low temperature
📖 Examples:
  • It is sunny today.
  • The weather is rainy and cloudy.
  • Yesterday was hotter than today.
  • Today is the hottest day this week.
  • It is windy at the beach.

⚽ Sports

We learn about different sports and activities we can do throughout the year.

📝 Water Sports:
  • Windsurfing 🏄 - Surfing with a sail attached to the board
  • Sailing ⛵ - Using a boat with sails to move on water
  • Swimming 🏊 - Moving through water
  • Diving 🤿 - Going underwater to explore
📖 Examples:
  • I like to go windsurfing at the beach.
  • We go sailing on sunny days.
  • My brother wants to go swimming every weekend.
  • Windsurfing is more exciting than sailing.
  • Swimming is the most popular water sport.
